The Arias Peace and Human Development Foundation, together with Religions for Peace needed to create a campaign to collect 15000 signatures before the end of November of 2010 in order to present a document to the General Secretary of the United Nations requesting the governments of the world to reduce their military budget by 10%, to help complete the United Nation’s Objectives of the Millennium Development Goals.

OUR ROLE

As a collaborative effort with JWT Costa Rica, we developed a digital campaign based on a highly interactive website, aimed toward national and foreign public, in which they were invited to support the cause by attaining a “digital” Costa Rican membership, and become part of the first country in the world that abolished its army forces.

RESULTS

In less than a month after launch, the website generates a massively viral effect on a global scale, managing to collect over 200.000 national and international signatures. Upon completion of the campaign, over one million signatures were collected on a global scale. With these results, Costa Rica became the second country with most signatures in the document presented to the United Nations.
